Inner Renunciation

According to Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda - "To engage in actions without desire for their fruit is true renunciation. God is the Divine Renunciant, for he carries on all activities of the universe without attachment to them. Anyone aspiring to Self-realization must act and live for the Lord without being emotionally involved in His drama of creation".

Happiness

Happiness - Selections from the writings of Paramahansa Yogananda

If you have given up hope of ever being happy, cheer up. Never lose hope. Your soul, being a reflection of the ever joyous Spirit, is, in essence, happiness itself.

Happiness depends to some extent upon external conditions, but chiefly upon mental attitudes.

Essentially, conditions are neither good nor bad; they are always neutral, seeming to be either depressing or encouraging because of the sad or bright attitude of the mind of the individual concerned with them.

Change your thoughts if you wish to change your circumstances. Since you alone are responsible for your thoughts, only you can change them. You will want to change them when you realize that each thought creates according to its own nature. Remember that the law works at all times and that you are always demonstrating according to the kind of thoughts you habitually entertain. Therefore, start now to think only those thoughts that will bring you health and happiness.

Unconditional Love

Insights and Inspirations - Unconditional Love from the writings by Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda

The world as a whole has forgotten the real meaning of the word love. Love has been so abused and crucified by man that very few people know what true love is. Just as oil is present in every part of the olive, so love permeates every part of creation. But to define love is very difficult, for the same reason that words cannot fully describe the flavor of an orange. You have to taste the fruit to know its flavor. So with love.

In the universal sense, love is the divine power of attraction in creation that harmonizes, unites, binds together....Those who live in tune with the attractive force of love achieve harmony with nature and their fellow beings, and are attracted to blissful reunion with God.

"Ordinary love is selfish, darkly rooted in desires and satisfactions," [Sri Yukteswar said]. "Divine love is without condition, without boundary, without change. The flux of the human heart is gone forever at the transfixing touch of pure love."

Many human beings say "I love you" one day and reject you the next. That is not love. One whose heart is filled with the love of God cannot willfully hurt anyone. When you love God without reservation, He fills your heart with His unconditional love for all.. That love no human tongue can describe....The ordinary man is incapable of loving others in this way. Self-centered in the consciousness of "I, me, and mine," he has not yet discovered the omnipresent God who resides in him and in all other beings.

To me there is no difference between one person and another; I behold all as soul-reflections of the one God. I can't think of anyone as a stranger, for I know that we are all part of the One Spirit. When you experience the true meaning of religion, which is to know God, you will realize that He is your Self, and that He exists equally and impartially in all beings. Then you will be able to love others as your own Self.

Healing begins with Humility

Prayer - "O spirit, teach us to heal the body by recharging it with thy cosmic energy, heal the mind by concentration and cheerfulness and heal the soul by the divine medicine of meditation on thee"; Pra-phrased from a prayer by Paramahansa Yogananda (www.srf-yogananda.org)

We as human beings have to admit that we do not exist all by our selves. We exist due to divine providence. It is awesome to know that when we sleep at night we do not know what happens to us for at least a few hours, however, when we come in touch with the physical self we see that all things around us are the same the next day as we had seen it previously. this is amazing and this itself is testimony to metaphysical activity.

In one of the spiritual commentaries that I read I found an interesting note that our body changes every 6 months however the changes are so subtle that it is not noticeable by the naked eye.

For foregoing prayer simply points out the importance of the connectivity between the body, mind and soul. To a lay person the term 'soul' or 'atman' may sound intriguing however as one progresses spiritually the various dimensions of the 'soul' is experienced. Though we think ourselves as seemingly mortal when one progresses spiritually one can experience 'immortality'.

It is very tricky though, since we should not get carried away by our spiritual development as we may lose the essence of the 'life giving experiences'.
